Aston Villa are now ‘very close’ to reaching an agreement to bring in a midfielder that Unai Emery wants.

Following a flurry of activity before 30th June to make sure they complied with PSR rules, Aston Villa are continuing their efforts to back Emery in the transfer market.

The club are set to bring in a winger in the shape of Jaden Philogene and his arrival could even be finalised at some point today.

Emery also wants a midfielder landing and Aston Villa have held talks with Everton about snapping up Amadou Onana.

Now, according to Spanish daily Marca, they are ‘very close’ to reaching an agreement with Everton for Onana.

Emery is keen to have Onana at his disposal and it is claimed that the Belgian will cost Aston Villa just over €40m.

If that is the fee then that would be less than the €60m that Everton have been looking to bank from the player’s exit.

Onana, who is set to turn 23 years old later this month, made four appearances for Belgium at Euro 2024 this summer.
