German side Hannover 96 have moved to extend the contract of defender Phil Neumann after rejecting an offer from Birmingham City.
The 27-year-old has been a key member of Stefan Leitl’s side since joining in 2022 and has notched up 157 appearances for them so far.
His performances for Hannover caught the attention of League One outfit Birmingham City, who made an attempt to bring him in to help their quest for promotion next season.
A bid of €4m with possible add-ons was made, though the German club immediately rejected that move.
Now, according to Sky Deutschland, Hannover are pushing to extend Neumann’s stay which runs until the summer of 2025.
The new deal could keep the player at the club until 2027, thus putting an end to Birmingham City’s attempts at getting their hands on the player.
No agreement has though been reached between Neumann and Hannover yet, even though he is open to signing one.
The club consider the former German Under-20 international as an important part of their future.
