Oxford United are poised to scoop up the signature of winger Matt Phillips, who is a free agent after leaving West Brom, according to the Sun.

Phillips, 33, has been on the lookout for his next club following the end of his deal at the Hawthorns.

An experienced player, capable of operating right down the left hand flank, Phillips has fielded interest and has now decided where he wants to go.

The Wycombe Wanderers youth product has agreed to sign for Championship new boys Oxford United.

The U’s feel that Phillips is just the fit to help them in the second tier and are getting the capture over the line.

Phillips played in the Premier League with West Brom and clocked over 250 appearances for the Baggies during his time at the club.

Last term the winger made 26 outings in the Championship under Carlos Corberan and made six goal contributions.

Oxford United start their Championship campaign by hosting Norwich City and Phillips will hope to be involved.
