Liverpool are considering rivalling Manchester United for the signature of Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi, according to the Times.

Zubimendi played a big part in Spain’s European Championship triumph this summer and is a wanted man in the transfer window.

The Spaniard is one of the names Manchester United are keeping tabs on him as they look to bring in a new midfielder this summer.

However, the Red Devils could now face competition from within in the Premier League for Zubimendi.

It has been claimed that Liverpool are weighing up making a move to land the midfielder this summer.

The Reds are yet to sign someone this summer for the first team as Arne Slot eagerly waits for reinforcements.

Bringing in a new number 6 is said to be a priority for the Reds and Zubimendi is a player the club are looking at.

Zubimendi has a €60m release clause in his contract and Real Sociedad want that figure before agreeing to let him go.
