Newcastle United’s second bid for Marc Guehi was substantially short of Crystal Palace’s valuation of the defender, according to the Daily Mail.

Guehi has emerged as the top target for Newcastle as they seek to bring in a second centre-back in the ongoing transfer window.

The defender would be keen on the move if the two clubs could reach an agreement but for the moment, there is no deal in place.

It has been claimed that Crystal Palace have rejected a second bid from Newcastle for the England centre-back this summer.

Newcastle failed with an initial offer last week and Palace have knocked back another bid from the Magpies.

It has been suggested that the second offer from Newcastle was just shy of the £50m mark.

It is way away from the £65m asking price that Crystal Palace have slapped on the defender this summer.

The negotiations are being led by Palace co-owner Steve Parish and Newcastle sporting director Paul Mitchell.

Newcastle are hopeful that they will find an agreement in the coming days but Palace are insistent on getting a premium fee if they are to sell Guehi.
