Celtic are set to lose out on defensive target Dara O’Shea as he is closing in on a move to Premier League side Brentford, according to the Daily Telegraph.
Brendan Rodgers is keen to strengthen at centre-back and Celtic are prepared to let players in that position, including the likes of Gustaf Lagerbielke, move on.
Burnley defender O’Shea is a player Celtic admire, however they are now set to have to look elsewhere.
Brentford are deploying their Premier League spending power to get a deal for O’Shea over the line.
Burnley paid a fee of £7m to sign O’Shea from West Brom and he featured on a regular basis under Vincent Kompany at Turf Moor.
While the fee that Brentford will pay for the 25-year-old is unclear, it will hand Burnley a profit.
O’Shea came through the youth set-up at West Brom and established himself in the side, being capped by the Republic of Ireland as a result.
He has already played for Burnley in the Championship this season and scored in the Clarets’ 4-1 win over Luton Town on Monday night.
