Liverpool are ‘very close’ to agreeing a deal with Valencia for goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili, but it will not see him loaned to Bournemouth.

The Reds have been holding talks with Valencia to try and agree a deal to sign the goalkeeper, but the Spanish side have been sticking to their €40m asking price.

As Liverpool see Mamardashvili as the natural heir to Alisson between the sticks, they want to get the deal done to secure the goalkeeper and guard against his price rising.

The plan was to loan the shot-stopper out to Bournemouth in order that he could get Premier League experience, something Mamardashvili was open to.

Now, according to Spanish journalist Hector Gomez, Liverpool are ‘very close’ to an agreement with Valencia.

Mamardashvili will not though go to Bournemouth on loan as Liverpool have changed their plan.

The plan now under discussion will see Liverpool loan the goalkeeper back to Valencia for the season.

Valencia would still be able to count on Mamardashvili and he would re-join the club on loan from Liverpool.

That is likely to please Valencia as they will still be able to field Mamardashvili while at the same time getting a financial boost.
