Arsenal have tabled a bid with Espanyol for goalkeeper Joan Garcia as they push to bring in a replacement for Southampton-bound Aaron Ramsdale, according to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Ramsdale is set to be on the south coast today to complete a move to Southampton from Arsenal ahead of Friday’s deadline.

Arsenal are now in the market for a new number 2 goalkeeper and Garcia has been their top target this summer.

Espanyol want the €30m release clause in the goalkeeper’s contract but Arsenal have gone in with a lower bid.

It has been claimed that the Gunners have put in a bid to take Garcia to the Emirates Stadium on the final day of the transfer window.

Arsenal have offered a total package worth €20m to sign the goalkeeper from the Spanish side.

Agents Juanma Lopez and Andy Bara are negotiating with Espanyol for Garcia on behalf of Arsenal.

It remains to be seen whether the Spanish side are prepared to accept a lesser fee to sell the goalkeeper.
