Leeds United are ‘ready to pay’ €3m plus add-ons to land a defensive target who ‘will fly to England’ on Friday if a full agreement can be reached.

The Championship side have a number of irons in the fire as the final stretch of the summer transfer window approaches.

Leeds are keen to make three signings before the window shuts and one of those will be a full-back.

St Gallen defender Isaac Schmidt is the player Leeds look to have chosen and they are closing in on him.

According to Sky Deutschland, Leeds are ‘ready to pay’ a fee of €3m plus add-ons to land the 24-year-old Swiss.

The talks between Leeds and St Gallen are advanced, with a full agreement expected to emerge soon.

If the agreement is reached then Schmidt ‘will fly to England’ on Friday, following this evening’s Conference League clash between St Gallen and Trabzon.

Schmidt has been ready to move on from St Gallen this summer in search of a new challenge.

The defender has also attracted interest from Werder Bremen.
