Barnsley have suffered last minute disappointment in their bid to bring in an attacker from the Netherlands after he ‘called off’ a move to Oakwell.

The League One side are looking to make additions before the window closes and Darrell Clarke wants more attacking power.

Barnsley have had an agreement in place with Dutch top flight side Go Ahead Eagles to sign their Swedish forward Victor Edvardsen.

He has been due to fly into England to complete the move, but the 28-year-old has had second thoughts.

According to Swedish daily Aftonbladet, Edvardsen has ‘called off’ the switch to Barnsley.

Edvardsen has decided he wants to stay in the Netherlands for now due to family reasons and he will remain at Go Ahead Eagles.

The forward made public his unhappiness at being overlooked for the starting eleven in a recent Go Ahead Eagles game.

He will now have to build bridges at the club, while Barnsley must look for another attacking option.
