Birmingham City are now ‘closing in’ on signing Jay Stansfield from Fulham for a big transfer fee, according to the Daily Telegraph.
Stansfield is a priority target for Blues and they are prepared to push the boat out to sign him.
He spent last term on loan at the club and Birmingham have been desperate to get him back on deadline day.
They had a bid of around £10m knocked back by Fulham earlier today, but continued to work on the deal and did not give up.
Now the League One club are ‘closing in’ on Stansfield and are set to sign him for a fee which is in excess of £10m.
That will smash the transfer record in League One and is a massive statement of intent.
Fulham have been opposed to letting Stansfield, who is rated by boss Marco Silva, go.
Birmingham flashing the cash has ultimately caused Fulham to change their mind and now Blues will look to get the deal done before the deadline.
