Crystal Palace have made a late move to try and hijack Southampton’s pursuit of West Ham United winger Maxwel Cornet, according to the Daily Mirror.

Cornet is expected to leave West Ham before the window closes tonight as he is not a major part of the club’s plans.

He has suitors in the Premier League and Southampton have been in talks to capture the winger on loan from the Hammers.

However, it has been claimed that the Saints are now facing the threat of their pursuit getting hijacked.

Crystal Palace have entered the frame late for Cornet and are pushing to take him to Selhurst Park in the coming hours.

Talks are progressing with both clubs as they push to reach an agreement with the Hammers over a deal for the winger.

If both clubs manage to have agreements in place with West Ham, the decision will rest with the player.

Cornet is likely to join the club who are prepared to offer him greater guarantees of regular football.
