Newcastle United are making progress in their efforts to sign Nottingham Forest winger Anthony Elanga in a big-money deadline day swoop, with the deal ‘developing quickly’, according to talkSPORT.
The Magpies started the summer with the priorities of signing a centre-back and a right-sided forward but have so far signed two goalkeepers and a young project striker.
The summer-long chase for Marc Guehi ended in disappointment and they are yet to make a ‘suitable offer’ for Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford.
Elanga has been on Newcastle’s wish list this summer as well but they were yet to make a concrete move for him.
However, that has changed with hours left in the window as Newcastle are pushing forward to secure a deal for the former Manchester United winger.
The Magpies are in talks with Forest and are closing in on an agreement to sign the winger in the final hours of the transfer window.
The winger has started both of Forest’s opening Premier League games but club are said to be close to sanctioning his sale.
The situation is ‘developing quickly’ and it is claimed that it is also ‘likely to be done’.
It remains to be seen whether Newcastle can finalise the terms of the deal and complete all the formalities in the remaining hours of the window.
