Sunderland are making a late attempt to sign Chelsea forward David Datro Fofana on a loan deal, according to the Daily Telegraph.

The 21-year-old striker spent last season on loan at Union Berlin and Burnley and has not been close to Chelsea’s first-team squad this season.

He has been training with the rest of the players who have been expected to leave Chelsea but his future remains unresolved with just an hour left in the window.

Fofana has suitors in the Championship and one of those clubs are making a late play to sign him.

It has been claimed that Sunderland are pushing to secure a deal to sign the striker on loan from Chelsea.

The Black Cats have entered the fray late in the day but are rapidly running out of time to sign the forward.

However, Sunderland are making an attempt to work out a deal to take the striker to the Stadium of Light on loan.

It remains to be seen whether a deal can be agreed upon in time for Sunderland to sign Fofana.
