Crystal Palace loan star David Ozoh has revealed that Derby County boss Paul Warne told him on a Zoom call to not be afraid of making mistakes and express himself before he joined the club.

The 19-year-old defensive midfielder is a product of Crystal Palace academy and this season he has joined Derby County on a season-long loan to continue his development.

Derby were quick in the market to wrap up a deal for Ozoh and the Crystal Palace youngster has started all four league games for the Rams.

Ozoh revealed that before joining Derby, Warne gave him confidence on a Zoom call to be not afraid of making mistakes and to express himself.

The Palace loanee admitted that the Derby manager’s reassurance helped him a lot to kickstart his career with the Pride Park outfit.

“He just asked me to come in and just express myself and I had a Zoom call and he told me, ‘don’t be scared to make any mistakes,’ and I think that is the one thing that really helped me, is that the manager has told me that”, Ozoh told Rams TV.

“It can be a problem for a lot of players when they think they cannot make any mistakes, so I think the manager gave me reassurance; just win the ball, which is my best attribute.”

Ozoh scored his first goal of his senior career against Bristol City just before the international break.

He is rated highly at Crystal Palace and the Eagles will be keeping a close eye on him.
