Fleetwood Town boss Charlie Adam is looking forward to facing a Ryan Shawcross-led Stoke City and he feels that his side can hurt the Championship side.

The Potters sacked their manager Steven Schumacher on Monday hot on the heels of a loss against Oxford United and Shawcross is currently the caretaker boss.

Shawcross will face League Two side Fleetwood Town in the EFL Cup tonight and his former team-mate Adam is the current manager of the Cod Army.

Adam admitted that he is looking forward to facing his former Stoke City team-mate Shawcross on the touchline.

“It’s a tough time losing your job, and as we speak, I have just heard the news, but for me the manager of Fleetwood Town and coming up against Ryan Shawcross, I am looking forward to that on the touchline”, Adam told Fleetwood Town’s in-house media about facing his former team-mate and his former club.

“As I have said, it’s always good to go back to a club you have a good affinity with and I know I won’t be any different in what I want.”

Adam also feels that the Cod Army have the players to hurt the Potters and he wants his side to show that tonight.

“I want my team to go there and show what we are about.

“It will be a great game and one where I know we can cause them problems.”

Shawcross will be equally motivated to beat Fleetwood in the EFL Cup tonight amid Stoke’s managerial search.
