Derby County star Nathaniel Mendez-Laing has insisted that he has never doubted what his side can achieve throughout the rest of the season despite being written off by early in the campaign.

The Rams achieved promotion last season from League One and they have made a decent start to life back in the Championship.

Paul Warne’s men have won three of their opening five league matches in the season and lost the other two.

Mendez-Laing insists that the Rams have a lot of passion and a real desire to achieve something significant this season.

The experienced Rams forward reiterated that despite people writing them off after their opening-day loss against Blackburn Rovers, he did not doubt his team’s ambitions.

“Not for one second did I doubt what we could achieve this season”, the 32-year-old forward said on Rams TV.

“I think a lot of people kind of wrote us off early doors, especially after the Blackburn game.

“But I know what we have got there, a lot of passion and desire.

“I am really pleased with the start and we are picking up some momentum, hopefully, it continues.”

The Rams have a tough game on Saturday as they face one of the promotion favourites in the shape of Sheffield United away at Bramall Lane.
