Bayern Munich sporting director Max Eberl has picked the last two seasons Aston Villa have played under Unai Emery for particular praise, insisting that it is the reason why nobody underestimates them.
The German giants are set to take on Aston Villa at Villa Park in the Champions League this evening.
Both sides will go into the match on the back of impressive results on matchday one and will aim to build on that.
However, the German club’s sporting director is wary of the threat the Villans are expected to pose in front of them.
Picking the last two seasons under Emery for particular praise, Eberl insisted that it is the reason why no one underestimates the Premier League club.
“If you’ve followed the last two years, Aston Villa is a bit of a surprise team that has burst into the ranks of the really big clubs in the Premier League”, Eberl was quoted as saying by German daily SZ.
“That’s why no one underestimates Aston Villa.”
Ebrl is counting on Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany’s experience of the Premier League to see them through.
“In Birmingham, the intensity is very high. Football is very, very active.
“Vinny and his coaching staff probably know the Premier League a little better than any of us do.”
Bayern Munich handed Kompany the manager’s job in the summer after being snubbed by a host of bosses they approached.
