Former Norwich City star Dean Ashton has revealed that Canaries star Ante Crnac reminds him of a young puppy.

After Adam Idah’s departure for Celtic in the most recent transfer window, Canaries sporting director Ben Knapper splashed big money on Croatian attacker Crnac.

Johannes Hoff Thorup has already given the 20-year-old attacker five league starts but he is yet to chip in with a goal or assist.

Ashton admits that Crnac’s touches and his ability on the ball make him think that he has a very high ceiling, with his ability to find Josh Sargent, for the penalty, in the 1-1 draw against Leeds United showing that.

However, the former Canary also insists that the Croatian reminds him of a young puppy, who does something adorable at one moment and hits his head on the door at the next.

“He reminds me a bit of a young puppy as in he will do something that is so lovely and just superb”, Ashton said on BBC Radio Norfolk about the Canaries’ summer acquisition.

“And then just turn around and hit their head on the door.

“Some of the touches [from Crnac], I was like, yes, that is a player, that is going to be a player.

“The bit for the goal, stunning.

“And if he can keep working on those sorts of things but then he give the ball away or get in the wrong position.

“There is a player there though.

“There is absolutely a player with a couple of other bits.”

Thorup has shown his faith in Crnac and the Croatian forward will be looking to score his first goal in Norwich colours as soon as possible.
