Southampton boss Russell Martin has denied that Saints were among Leicester City star Facundo Buonanotte’s suitors in the summer transfer window.
In the summer, Southampton were keen on adding quality in their midfield and were linked with Buonanotte, who was with Brighton at that time.
Leicester were also among the 19-year-old midfielder’s admirers and they managed to seal a deal with Brighton to sign him.
Martin admitted that he watched Buonanotte a lot last season but insisted that he was never discussed as a target in the summer at St. Mary’s.
He added that the Leicester star is a very talented player but pointed out that several players were linked with Southampton in the summer.
“He was never mentioned here, so I think there were a lot of players linked here”, Martin said at a press conference.
“I watched him a lot for Brighton over the last year or so before he got injured.
“He’s a really talented player.
“Every team in the Premier League has a lot of talented players and we can sit here and talk about all of them.”
Buonanotte is in terrific form this season for Leicester and the Southampton boss will have a task on his hands to stop the midfielder when Saints face the Foxes this weekend.
