Birmingham City boss Chris Davies has praised Blues new boy Tomoki Iwata for his excellent finishing display against Bolton Wanderers to give his team an early lead on Tuesday night.

Blues sealed a 2-0 victory over Bolton at St. Andrew’s on Tuesday with the help of Iwata and Jay Stainsfield’s goals.

Iwata gave Birmingham the lead in the early minutes of the game with a cracking volley from the edge of the opposition box.

Davies believes that Iwata’s goal in terms of individual brilliance is probably the best goal scored by any player in his team so far this season and pointed out that the Japanese controlled the ball really well.

The Birmingham boss insists he has worked with some top quality players and Iwata’s finish is up there with the best of them.

“Individually, probably one of the best we have had this season”, Davies on Blues TV.

“You don’t see many of them.

“I have worked at a pretty high level with some top players and that is right up there. It is a hell of a finish.

“[It] came down a long way and [he] had to control it and strike it and yes, a great finish.

“But great position at the edge of the box and we looked like we were trying to threaten the goal and he arrived and finished really well.”

The defensive midfielder has featured seven times for Birmingham in the league and has scored three times.

He is repaying Davies’ call to snap him up from Celtic in the summer.
