Exeter City boss Gary Caldwell thinks that Birmingham City are a Championship team in the making and he predicted that Blues are on a similar path to Premier League outfit Ipswich Town.
Birmingham are determined to go straight back up to the Championship after being relegated to League One, and they have had a good start to the season.
After a defeat at the weekend against Shrewsbury Town, Chris Davies’ side bounced back to winning ways with a 2-0 win over Caldwell’s Exeter City on Tuesday night.
Caldwell admitted that Birmingham were by far the better team on the pitch and feels that Davies’ side are a Championship side in the making.
He predicted that Blues are on a similar path to Ipswich Town, who won back-to-back promotions in recent years to find themselves in the Premier League under Kieran McKenna.
“A lot of lessons to learn from the game, like I said we won’t play teams like Birmingham every week”, Caldwell told Exeter City’s in-house media.
“They are a Championship team in the making and potentially even more than that, as we have seen from Ipswich in recent years.
“They are on that kind of level, so it is one we have to accept.
“They were by far the better team on the night.”
Birmingham are third in the League One table with 33 points from 15 games and are five points short of league-toppers Wycombe Wanderers with a game in hand.
