New Genoa loan signing Cabral is hoping to power the club back to the Europa League with his brand of "simple, yet aggressive" football.

Sunderland midfielder Cabral is understood to have penned a loan deal at Genoa, who will retain the right to purchase him at the end of the season.

Genoa had put an offer in for Cabral earlier this week, and the club seem to have succeeded, though only Sunderland are yet to confirm the deal.

A statement on Sunderland's Twitter feed today read: "Midfielder Cabral has joined Genoa on loan until the end of the season."

And Cabral is hoping to find himself regular football, having previously enjoyed both Champions League and Europa League football with FC Basel, whom he left for Sunderland last summer.

He told Sky Italia: "I expect to play and to be able to help Genoa reach important objectives. Last season I played in the Europa League, and my objective is to return there.

"I like to play a simple style of football; I’m an aggressive player. I play like a number six and I’m fast.

"I played against Roma [Genoa’s next opponents] in a Basel shirt and I never lost, so I hope to help Genoa."
