Zenit St. Petersburg have moved to tempt former Tottenham Hotspur manager Andre Villas-Boas to Russia with a four-year contract.

The Russian Premier League giants parted company with Italian tactician Luciano Spalletti yesterday and have instantly identified Villas-Boas as their preferred long-term replacement.

Former Russia midfielder Sergey Semak has been appointed as interim coach, but feelers have already gone out to Villas-Boas, according to Sky Italia.

Zenit are now waiting to hear the Portuguese's response to a four-year proposal.

Villas-Boas was sacked by Tottenham in December last year, being replaced by Tim Sherwood.
