Manchester United boss David Moyes has refused to be drawn into commenting on the three penalties awarded against his side during their 3-0 defeat to Liverpool today.

Moyes watched his side clearly second best to Liverpool at Old Trafford, but penalties did not help his cause, the first given in the 34th minute after a handball from Rafael in the box, Steven Gerrard slotting it home.

A second arrived in the 46th minute when Phil Jones clattered into Joe Allen. Gerrard again scored, making it 2-0.

The third was awarded when Nemanja Vidic lunged at Daniel Sturridge in the 77th minute, being shown a red card as a result. This time though Gerrard's spot-kick smashed into the post.

Liverpool did get a third when Luis Suarez fired home in the 84th minute, but the penalties had done the damage.

Moyes was asked by the BBC for his view on the spot-kicks, replying: "It is better we don't talk about any of them.

"Some were penalties, some weren't."

And with Moyes' men now sitting seventh in the Premier League and eleven points behind fourth place, the Manchester United boss admitted that qualifying for next season's Champions League is tough.

"It looks like we are a long way off it, we are well aware of that but we are going to keep fighting", he said.
