Leeds United have confirmed the signing of young striker Robbie McDaid from Glenavon.

The Yorkshire giants have hailed the capture of McDaid as a coup, claiming to have beaten a number of clubs to the 17-year-old's signature.

The promising goalscorer has spent time on trial at Elland Road and featured for a Leeds' Under-17 side last month, scoring a brace in a fixture against Sheffield Wednesday.

Leeds development coach Neil Redfearn has wasted little time saluting the capture of McDaid, telling his club's site: "He’s a great signing for us. It’s a real coup given the interest in him from a lot of clubs.

"He’s done really well for Glenavon, and because he has been playing senior football for a while, he’s already got that experience, and the transition should be easy to cope with.

"He is a player who knows his position, he runs the channels well, and the most important thing as a striker is that he knows where the back of the net is."

McDaid has penned a two-year contract with Leeds.
