Liverpool midfielder Joe Allen says his side were well aware of the fact that Chelsea had thrashed Arsenal 6-0 before they took to the pitch against Cardiff City yesterday.

Jose Mourinho's side met Arsene Wenger's men in the Premier League's early kick-off at Stamford Bridge, meaning they had been able to extend their lead at the top of the table to seven points by the time Liverpool started their clash.

That put extra pressure on the Reds to respond and keep the gap at just four points and Allen was pleased with the way his team, who won 6-3, handled the situation.

"We were aware of how that game went; you try not to let that distract you too much", he told his club's site.
