That will see the Reds taking a firm grip of the title race, with only six games left for them to play, including Chelsea and Manchester City at Anfield.

And Flanagan, who was delighted when Liverpool fans formed a guard of honour to welcome the team coach to Anfield before Wednesday's Premier League win over Sunderland, points to it to highlight the role supporters have to play at a vital time.

"It was unbelievable", he told his club's site.

"All of the lads were buzzing, and I got goosebumps on my neck when I saw it. It was amazing and got all of the lads up for the game.

"They've got a massive role to play.

"They're always there behind us, and massively so now that we're in and around the top of the table. They've been a massive help and hopefully they'll keep going."
