Anderlecht sporting director Herman Van Holsbeeck has revealed that Leicester City defender Marcin Wasilewski wanted to return to the Belgian club this summer, but saw his wishes vetoed by the Foxes.

The veteran Polish defender made 185 appearances for Anderlecht between 2007 and 2013, picking up three Belgian Jupiler League titles.

He headed to sign for Leicester last year, penning a one-year deal which was then extended for a further campaign after the club reached the Premier League.

But the 34-year-old wanted to return to Anderlecht, Van Holsbeeck claims.

He told reporters: "Wasilewski wanted to come back, but his club did not let him."

The defender has made one appearance for Nigel Pearson's Leicester so far this season, turning out in the League Cup.
