Rangers boss Ally McCoist has admitted that his team want to avoid a clash with arch-rivals Celtic in the Scottish League Cup semi-final.

The Gers showed real resilience as they ran out 1-0 winners against St, Johnstone yesterday, albeit in front of only 13,000 people at Ibrox, thus going through to the semi-final of the tournament.

However, they now wait for the Bhoys to face Partick Thistle tonight along with two other quarter-final matches before the draw for the semi-finals takes place on Saturday.

The Scottish Championship outfit's manager though is apprehensive about facing the Hoops in the semi-final, in spite of conceding that a team can't really choose whom to play when they reach the latter stages of a tournament.

"When you get to the semis, you can't really pick and choose", McCoist was quoted as saying by the BBC.

"We all know who the favourites will be to pick up the domestic trophies, so in that respect I would take anybody but Celtic."

Talking about the possibility of facing Celtic, McCoist added that his team would definitely go into the match as underdogs, but "underdogs can sometimes win."

"If we did get Celtic, it would be a very, very tough game and it would be stating the obvious to say we would be the underdogs.

"But the underdogs can sometimes win."
