Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney admits he is impressed with how Danny Ings has performed in the Premier League this season.

Ings has netted eight goals in the English top flight for struggling Burnley this season and is the subject of interest from a number of clubs, including Liverpool and Real Sociedad.

His contract expires at the end of the season and Ings has been tipped to move on to bigger things after failing to sign an extension.

And Rooney, who will line up against Ings when Manchester United host Burnley this evening, feels the striker has shown he is capable of playing at the top level.

Rooney told United Review: "Danny Ings is doing fantastically.

"He is scoring quite a few goals and his movement is really good."

Rooney also admits he has noted Ings' progress on the international stage with England's Under-21s, insisting that if the striker can continue to develop then it will be good news for the country. The England skipper though wants Ings to be off-colour tonight.

"I have seen him quite a few times for England Under-21s as well and he is doing well there.

"It will be good for him if he continues to score goals – just not against us."

Ings was on target in Burnley's last game, scoring his side's second in a 2-2 draw at home against West Brom on Sunday.
