West Ham boss Sam Allardyce has been handed a dossier produced by Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal as the debate over the Red Devils' long ball game continues.

Allardyce accused Van Gaal of switching Manchester United to long ball tactics during the 1-1 draw played out between the two teams last weekend.

Van Gaal took exception to the West Ham manager's comments and produced his own dossier, full of facts and figures, to demonstrate that Manchester United did not play a long ball game at Upton Park.

Now, as he prepares his West Ham side to play West Brom in the FA Cup, Allardyce has been confronted by Van Gaal's dossier, promising to read it when he has an opportunity.

Van Gaal has come under fire for his side's brand of football this season, amid claims he is not staying true to the traditional values of Manchester United.

Nevertheless, the Dutchman has Manchester United sitting third in the Premier League table and on course to qualify for next season's Champions League, which would mark a return to the showpiece competition for the club.
