Barcelona midfielder Xavi Hernandez has revealed that he is happy with his current role in the team as he doesn’t expect to play every game at his age.
Xavi, who became one of the regular fixtures of Barcelona's midfield during Frank Rijkaard’s reign from 2003 until 2008, has made sporadic appearances under current manager Luis Enrique.
The veteran midfielder has played 16 La Liga games this season, of which 11 have come as a starter. He only started two of Barcelona’s group stage games in this season’s Champions League.
In an interview with the Catalan radio programme Dia de la Radio, Xavi said that he is satisfied with the way the current season has turned out for him as at the age of 35 he doesn’t expect to start every game.
“We all want [to achieve] the same [objectives] and have the same goal. It is clear that I am 35 years old now and I'm not on the same physical level as I was at 28, but the current season has been a success.”

Xavi was on the verge of making a move to MLS outfit New York City FC last summer, but he has reiterated that not leaving Catalonia has been a good decision as he has played a significant role in Barcelona’s campaign.
“I thought about leaving the club, but my decision [not to leave] has been a success and I am enjoying my new role of playing specific games and helping the group.”
He added that being at Barcelona he has learnt to put the team ahead of himself as a result of which he hasn’t felt slighted by his lack of minutes in the first team.
“As I said earlier, I always put the group ahead of individuality, I am well bred at Barca.”
If selected, Xavi will look to help Barcelona grab all three points when they play Levante in their next La Liga fixture this weekend as they look to stay hot on the heels of league leaders Real Madrid.
