Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti is upbeat about a positive display from his side ahead of their Champions League match against Schalke tonight.

The European champions are the only team in the current edition of the Champions League to have won all their group stage games as they prepare to resume their trophy defence tonight against German outfit Schalke at the Veltins-Arena.

Their Champions League form notwithstanding, Los Blancos are coming into their match on the back of unconvincing displays in La Liga which led to certain sections of the Santiago Bernabeu faithful whistling their own team in their last home fixture against Deportivo La Coruna.

Talking at a pre-match press conference, Ancelotti has said that his team will look to enjoy their game and play with “intensity and passion.”

“We’re going into the game with the idea of enjoying it and enjoying the moment. We need to start playing well again – with intensity and passion.

“I’m confident we can do that because we put in a good display against Deportivo, not without difficulties and I’m sure we will be even better against Schalke.”

The three-time Champions League winning manager added that his team will look to do all within their means to repeat last year’s success, which was their tenth European Cup.

“We’re the defending European champions and we will be doing everything possible to become European champions again.”

A win for Real Madrid would see them take a considerable advantage in the tie ahead of the return leg scheduled to be played in March.
