Chelsea then quickly hit Spurs with a second hammer blow within just ten minutes of the restart, with a Diego Costa shot taking a deflection off Kyle Walker to beat Hugo Lloris.

For Mourinho, while delighted with Chelsea's victory, he was also keen to pay tribute to what he felt was a superb Spurs side.

"I'm really happy", he told Sky Sports.

"I think I should start with Tottenham and Mauricio because they are a fantastic team.

"He is building a great team, they gave us a difficult match and they are a good team.

"I feel sorry for him, but I know he is a proud man with the work he did and the players he brought to this final."
