Celtic winger Gary Mackay-Steven has stressed the importance of his side’s win over Aberdeen yesterday as it helped them to stretch their lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership table.
Goals from Jason Denayer, Leigh Griffiths, Mackay-Steven and Stefan Johansen helped Ronny Deila’s side to register a comfortable 4-0 win over second-placed Aberdeen at Celtic Park.
Celtic stretched their lead over Aberdeen at the top of the table to six points with a game in their hand and the winger praised his team’s performance against their closest rivals in Scotland at the moment.
Mackay-Steven insisted that Aberdeen’s form this season suggests that Celtic did well to score a comfortable win over them and he admits that they have a great opportunity to stretch their lead further this Wednesday against St. Johnstone.
“It was very pleasing. It was a massive game for us”, Mackay-Steven told the club’s official site.

"Aberdeen are pushing hard in second and they have had a great season so far so it was important to get the win, and if we win on Wednesday we will be nine points clear so it was a big win for us.”
Mackay-Steven also believes that their comfortable win over Aberdeen also proved the quality and class that his side possess in their squad at the moment.
“Aberdeen have done really well, going on an unbeaten run and they are second for a reason.
“But we know the quality in our dressing room and we showed that on Sunday.”
