Ahead of Sunday’s FA Cup clash against Aston Villa, Liverpool midfielder Joe Allen feels that his team’s 2-0 win over Newcastle United last night will boost their confidence.
Brendan Rodgers’ men defeated the Magpies 2-0 and jumped to fifth place in the table with 57 points from their 32 Premier League games. There are six rounds of matches to go before the season comes to a close and the Reds are a mere four points adrift of fourth paced Manchester City as the Merseyside giants attempt to finish among the top four.
Liverpool will now travel to Wembley where they are scheduled to play Tim Sherwood’s Aston Villa in their FA Cup semi-final tie on Sunday.
A win for Liverpool would see them make the final of the prestigious domestic cup as they attempt to win it for the first time since the 2005/06 season and for the Reds, the FA Cup remains their only chance of ending the season with silverware.
“[The win is] brilliant for our confidence”, Allen told his club’s site.

“We can't wait.
“To have an occasion at Wembley is great, but we appreciate that it's only the semi-final and that there's a lot of work to be done.
“But with [last night’s] win and performance, we can go there confident that we can get ourselves through and get back there for another game in the final.”
