Jurgen Klopp could be on his way out of Borussia Dortmund after asking the club to terminate his contract, something which will be sure to prick the ears of clubs linked with the German, a group which includes Liverpool.

Dortmund have struggled badly this season and only pulled away from the relegation zone during the second half of the Bundesliga.

And according to German daily Bild, Klopp has asked Dortmund to end his contract with the club in the summer. His current deal runs until 2018 and his departure this year would see him exit three years early.

Thomas Tuchel is the favourite to replace Klopp, the coach having been tipped to sign for Hamburg earlier this week.

However, Tuchel will not end up at Hamburg and is now thought to be ready to succeed Klopp with BVB in the summer.

Tuchel is believed to have been offered a four-year deal, worth €20m, but no decision has yet been made.

Klopp meanwhile feels burned out after several high-intensity seasons at Dortmund, while his relationship with CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke and sporting director Michael Zorc has deteriorated.

Zorc met Tuchel in April 2014 for the first time, as at that time Klopp asked to be released because he had been offered another job in England. But Dortmund eventually refused to release him.

Update: Borussia Dortmund have now called a press conference for 13:30 CET
