Liverpool are eyeing Borussia Dortmund striker Ciro Immobile as a replacement for Mario Balotelli, who is expected to leave the club this summer.
Balotelli has been a source of frustration for Liverpool both on and off the pitch since his arrival from AC Milan at the start of the season.
The mercurial Italian has so far failed to justify his £16m price tag and it is believed Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is ready to cut his losses at the end of the season.
Rodgers wants to sign a forward this summer and has already identified a number of potential targets for the Reds.
Dortmund forward Immobile features prominently on the Northern Irishman’s shortlist of potential summer targets for the striking department.

The 25-year-old Italian has also failed to impress in his first season at Dortmund and has scored just three goals for Jurgen Klopp’s side in the league.
A regular in the first eleven before the winter break, Immobile has found himself on the periphery of the first team in recent months and made his last league start at the start of February.
According to Sky Italia, Liverpool are keen to take Immobile to Anfield at the end of the season as a replacement for Balotelli, who they are looking to offload.
Despite his poor showing at Dortmund, Rodgers feels Immobile has enough quality in him to find his touch in England at Anfield.
Immobile was the top scorer in Serie A last season before he joined Dortmund from Torino last summer.
