Former Liverpool winger Steve McManaman wants Jurgen Klopp’s side to display more creativity on the pitch.

The Reds won the first game of their Europa League campaign last night when they recorded a narrow 1-0 win over Rubin Kazan away from home, which helped them to move up to second place in Group B.

Jordon Ibe scored the only goal of the game in the 52nd minute and Klopp’s men defended resolutely to ensure the points at the Kazan Arena.

While McManaman admits that Klopp has made a positive impression on Liverpool since his arrival last month, he feels there are a number of games the Reds should have won, which they didn’t under the German.

The former midfielder is happy with the way Klopp has made them defend better, but he feels Liverpool should be playing with a lot more creativity than they are at the moment.

McManaman said on BT Sport: “The results have been positive and the one outstanding result was the Chelsea win, but we shouldn’t get too carried away.

“Some of the other results, you expect them to win, when they haven’t.

"He seems to have shored up the defence, but I still like to see more creativity and slowly but surely he is getting the right results.”

Liverpool will face Crystal Palace at Anfield on Saturday and the London side famously spoiled Steven Gerrard’s farewell party last season when they recorded a 3-1 win over the Reds in the penultimate game of the campaign.
