New Huddersfield Town manager David Wagner has refused to be drawn on whether Jurgen Klopp approached him to join his backroom staff at Liverpool, but admits he did discuss the Reds with his former boss.
Wagner, who worked alongside Klopp at Borussia Dortmund, recently departed as boss of the club's Under-23 side and was instantly linked with reuniting with the 48-year-old at Liverpool.
But Wagner sprung a surprise by choosing to accept an offer from Huddersfield and has succeeded Chris Powell at the Championship club.
At a press conference to present him as the club's new manager today, Wagner was asked about the Liverpool links, but did not want to discuss the matter, besides wishing Klopp well.
"Listen. I think it's not the day today to speak about Liverpool. Today is the day to speak about Huddersfield and our vision, idea and plan", Wagner said.

"What I can say is everyone knows I have a good relationship with Jurgen. He is a good friend of mine. I wish him all the best for his work and I know he wishes us all the best for our work here."
Wagner does admit there was a conversation with Klopp though, revealing: "Of course when he went to Liverpool we spoke about his staff, but at that moment I was under contract at Dortmund and so this was not the plan for me."
And Wagner is looking forward to being able to put his own stamp on Huddersfield, saying a new era has begun at the John Smith's Stadium.
"I'm sure you saw some games from Borussia Dortmund in the last four years, and especially in the first two years the game was very, very good, and this is what I like to do.
"I like passion in the game, I like speed, I like to score goals. This is exactly what I like to do, how I like to play. One of our points in German is gegenpressing, and what we like to do is have speed in our game."
