Leeds United boss Steve Evans believes that if he can get his side going in terms of results he can possibly convince owner Massimo Cellino to spend on quality players.

The Whites, who are placed 16th in the league table at present, prepare to host table toppers Middlesbrough in an important league encounter on Monday.

The manager is well aware of the nature of challenge that awaits them, but insists that they have a point to prove against Aitor Karanka's side.

Speaking about the kind of quality that is on offer at the Riverside Stadium, the 53-year-old manager stated that it is natural that Boro attract quality players because of their position in the league.

In that context Evans also took time to insist that if he can somehow get his side going in the Championship, with the crowd in a roll there is no reason why they cannot influence the owner to invest in some real quality.

“Middlesbrough went to the market, but they went in a position of strength – in the top two in the Championship – and they gave every incentive to the board to spend the money", Evans was quoted as saying by his club's official website.

“But I’ve always said if I can get Leeds United – a fantastic club – on a roll, with the crowds up at Elland Road, with good principles and getting value for money, I think we’d then give the owner the incentive to look at some real pieces of quality.

“We need to put ourselves in a position to do that.”
