Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has indicated that he enjoys the connection that the Reds legends still have with the club, while revealing he now lives in a house built by Steven Gerrard.

The German took the reins of the iconic Merseyside club from Brendan Rodgers in October last year and while it has not been all smooth sailing, his enthusiasm has caught the imagination of the Anfield faithful.

Liverpool managers in the past have had to carry the weight of expectations from the fans, who have not seen their side lift the league title in a quarter of a century, and have also received flak from some of the club legends, some of them who still live on Merseyside, when results turned for the worse.

Klopp is expected to perform under the same scrutiny, but the German indicated that he is not worried about all that and added that he enjoys the connection that the former Liverpool players still enjoy with the club.

The former Dortmund boss also feels that to be successful at Liverpool a player must be a decent human being. He told German magazine RevierSport: “I've now moved into the house that was built by Steven Gerrard.

“One of the rooms in our house is the Steven Gerrard's former trophy room, but luckily he has taken them all with him. I've met him a few times, he is a great player and a great person.

“That's what's so fantastic: At Liverpool you can't be successful as a player if you're not a decent human being.

"That's very important here. Football is incredibly important, but the fans want you as a package. You're either like that in the first place or you are made into such a person: humble towards what you experience here.

“And when you look at the people who get in touch with you after we have won a game, you'll see that the connection [to the club] doesn't end after a contract has expired. It is mainly the people in the city who are responsible for that because they give you the feeling of such incredible respect.

“As a manager you are not that important, but it is your job to provide people with as much enjoyment as possible.”

Klopp has an opportunity to finish his first season at the club with a trophy as he has guided Liverpool into the League Cup final, where they will face Manchester City at Wembley.
