Leeds United head coach Steve Evans has hailed his players as "outstanding" in this evening's 0-0 Championship draw with Middlesbrough at Elland Road.

Evans sprung a surprise by playing with a midfield diamond and going with Mirco Antenucci and Souleymane Doukara as a front two.

And it paid off, with an energetic Leeds pegging back Middlesbrough and dominating the game, although Jordan Rhodes had a goal incorrectly ruled out for offside in the 20th minute.

The ball was judged to have gone out of play before it was crossed to Rhodes, but replays showed it was clearly in play.

Nevertheless, Leeds had chances of their own and Doukara saw a header amazingly palmed away by the Middlesbrough goalkeeper to keep the scores level.

It finished 0-0, but with Leeds having had the better of the game and Evans was happy with what he saw.

"I thought the boys were outstanding, from start to finish", Evans said on BBC Radio Leeds.

"I thought the two strikers and Souleymane Doukara were very unfortunate not to get two goals that had amazing saves.

"Lewis Cook was back to something very special tonight.

"With a young man, you give them different responsibilities and I think he's very fortunate when he looks behind him and sees [Toumani] Diagouraga.

"Hopefully when I'm allowed to add some more of my players, we'll be ready to properly, properly challenge come July", Evans added, making plans for the future.
