Tottenham Hotspur star Harry Kane has revealed that Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart tried to suck him into mind games by claiming he knew where the 22-year-old was going to place his penalty on Sunday.

Spurs secured a vital 2-1 win over title rivals Manchester City on Sunday at the Etihad Stadium with Kane opening the scoring for his side.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side were awarded a penalty in the 53rd minute of Sunday’s clash after winger Raheem Sterling was controversially adjudged to have handled the ball inside the box, and Kane stepped up to bury his penalty down the middle with Hart diving to his right.

Substitute striker Kelechi Iheanacho equalised for the Citizens in the 74th minute, but Erik Lamela and Christian Eriksen combined to score the winner in the 83rd minute to help the Lilywhites claim the three points in the crucial fixture.

Hart was captured murmuring to Kane before the 22-year-old striker lined up to take his penalty.

The England striker has revealed that the duo were involved in friendly banter and claimed that Hart told him that he knew the striker was going to shoot his penalty down the middle.

Kane obliged and went down the middle only for Hart to dive out of the way.

Attending the One Hotspur Junior Fan Forum, Kane told Spurs TV: “Yes [it was friendly banter].

"We practice a lot when we are away for England and he said ‘I know you like to go to the keeper’s right and I know you like to go down the middle as well’, he said, ‘I think you are going down the middle’ so I said ‘ok’ and I put it down the middle.”

The win helped Spurs leapfrog Arsenal into second place in the league table and also helped them open a four-point gap on Manchester City.
