Tottenham Hotspur defender Toby Alderweireld feels their defensive strength has been one of the reasons behind their ability to rescue points from losing positions this season.

Spurs have shown some remarkable form over the course of the season to become firm title contenders and are currently on a six-game winning run in the Premier League at the moment.

They have lost just three times in the league this season, and have rescued 17 points from a losing position, more than any other Premier League team in the current campaign.

They again came back from a goal down to get three points against Swansea at White Hart Lane on Sunday, and Alderweireld feels their defensive strength is one of the key reasons behind their ability to come back from losing positions.

He pointed out that they rarely concede too many goals, and have the quality in the attacking third to get the team out of jail when needed.

The defender told Spurs TV: “I think it is because the way we play.

“We are quite solid, which means we are never two goals down. Of course it can happen, but until now it hasn’t.

“Even when we go down, we know what our plan is for the 90 minutes.

"Since we don’t concede a lot, that is why we are always in the game and up front, we have the quality to make the difference.”

Tottenham could go top of the table if they manage to beat West Ham, who have not lost at home since August, at Upton Park tonight.
