Roma legend Sebino Nela has urged the Giallorossi not to sell striker Edin Dzeko, despite interest in the Bosnian from Premier League side Sunderland.

The former Manchester City star has struggled to make an impact in his first season in Italian football and Roma are ready to sell for the right price.

Sunderland have slapped in a bid of £11m to take Dzeko back to the Premier League after just one season away, but Roma want more money putting on the table.

Nela though feels that Roma should not be selling Dzeko and should instead give him another season, as the initial 12 months will have allowed him to adapt to Italy.

The Roma legend told Tutto Mercato: "I think [coach Luciano] Spalletti is the man to give him a second chance.

"Historically it is always a struggle in the first year and in the season just ended he suffered a bit in his relationship with [Francesco] Totti.

"To fumble with him is the wrong move, indeed, because to find a player of that level is really complicated", Nela added.

Dzeko made a total of 39 appearances for Roma across all competitions in the 2015/16 season and hit the back of the net on ten occasions.

The 30-year-old made his debut for Roma in a Serie A fixture against Hellas Verona, which ended in a 1-1 draw.
