Chris Wood is ready to leave Leeds United for a Premier League club this summer, a source close to the player has claimed, with Southampton, West Ham and Stoke City all keen, according to the Daily Star.

The New Zealand international was in sensational form for Leeds this season and his goals came close to putting the Whites into the playoffs in the Championship.

His exploits have not gone unnoticed and it is claimed West Ham and Stoke are currently ahead of Southampton in the battle to snap up the Kiwi marksman.

A source close to the player was quoted as saying Wood believes now is the time to try his luck in the Premier League, where he can substantially increase his earnings.

"He's had the season of his life and knows this is the time to cash in and get back into the top flight", the Daily Star quoted the source as explaining.

"In an ideal world he'd like to have done this with Leeds, but sadly it hasn't happened.

"But he believes he can be successful in the Premier League and wants another chance to prove himself."

Leeds have Wood under contract until the summer of 2019, but it has been claimed they could ask for around £15m for the striker.

Such a sum would represent a big profit on the £3m paid to Leicester city to secure Wood in the summer of 2015.

He was linked with a shock move to the Chinese Super League earlier this year, but saw out the campaign with Garry Monk's men.
