Veteran Dutch coach Aad de Mos has warned Frank de Boer to be careful when signing his former players at Crystal Palace this summer.

The 47-year-old has been appointed as the new manager at Selhurst Park and has been tasked with the job of improving on the work left behind by Sam Allardyce, who made sure the Eagles survived in the Premier League last season.

The Dutchman is expected to be heavily involved in the recruitment process at Palace this summer and De Mos is confident that De Boer has already identified the strengths and weaknesses of his squad.

And the veteran coach admits that it would be natural for De Boer to try to bring in players with whom he has worked with previously and who he can easily trust.

But De Mos feels that it comes with a caveat as a player picked from one of De Boer’s former clubs could easily fail and he would attract heavy criticism as a result.

He told ELF Voetbal: “I think De Boer knows very well about the strengths and weaknesses of his team through watching DVDs.

“If I was him I would like to get players who are trustworthy and whom he knows really well, but you can also make a mistake.

“For example, if he gets Joel Veltman from Ajax and he fails, he would attract criticism.”
