Wijnaldum has a contract with Liverpool coming to an end this month and looked set to be on his way to Barcelona, where a reunion with Ronald Koeman looked likely.

However, a dramatic turn of events has seen the Netherlands international being tipped to join Ligue 1 heavyweights PSG on a free transfer instead.

Wijnaldum is said to have changed his mind about joining Barcelona and is now set to accept the French giants’ offer to join them on a three-year deal.

According to Dutch daily De Telegraaf, PSG boss Pochettino is ‘committed’ to the arrival of Wijnaldum, while technical director Leonardo is working to get the deal over the line.

Pochettino signing off on the arrival Wijnaldum at PSG suggests that he is prepared to continue at the club for the 2021/22 season, handing a blow to Tottenham.

The Argentine is a managerial target for Spurs, who are said to be keen to bring the tactician back to the club for a second spell.

It was said that the former Southampton manager was also open to returning to Tottenham as he was claimed to be unhappy with some of the functioning of PSG.

However, Pochettino’s stance over PSG’s imminent signing of Wijnaldum, a player he is a long-term admirer of, hints that he is set to stay at the club.
